We are always looking for new members

The Ullenhall Players is not just made up of actors.  If this were the case then it would be impossible for us to stage any production!  What happens backstage is just as important as what happens on the stage to enable us to achieve a really successful production. Have a look at the Stage Door page biog's and see the variety of people that we have as members.

We are always looking for new people to join our group, and all ages and abilities are welcome - whether you are looking to act or be involved behind the scenes. Even if you have never been involved with theatre before but have a desire to give it a try then we would love to hear from you.

We pride ourselves on being a really friendly bunch. To be a member of The Ullenhall Players a sense of humour is an absolute must!  Although all our productions are run professionally and the standard of acting is extremely high, we still have an immense amount of fun in the rehearsal period and during the production week.

If your not sure whether there is a role for you with us, then below are some examples of the backstage roles that need to be filled to put on a production.  The people that take most of these roles change for each production so you can have a go at different tasks over a period of time.

If you feel you would like to join our happy band, or would like to find out more then please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Producer

Organiser extraordinaire! He or she oversees the whole production and ensures everyone know their role - from programmes to set design and props. If you are a born organiser, and can delegate, then this could be a role for you.

Director
Casts the play following auditions, interprets the script and directs, cajoles or just plain shouts at the actors until they do what you want!
Stage Manager (SM)
From the technical rehearsal and throughout the performance nights of a production they are in charge! They call actors to the stage, direct sound & lighting effects, scene changes, and oversee props. With the help of the Assistant Stage Manager of course
Assistant Stage Manager (ASM)
Helps the Stage Manager in all of the above roles and is responsible for opening & closing the curtains during a performance.
Costumes person
Liaises with the director to determine the period tin which the play is set and then designs and sources all costumes and undertakes alterations etc.  On some productions two people would be required.
Props person
Sources all props for a production, collates them and ensures that they are in the right places for the actors during performances and latter rehearsals.
Set designer
After discussions with the director and referring to the script, responsible for designing the set for a production either at The Palace Theatre or Aston Cantlow Village Hall.
Set Construction
The set doesn’t magically appear overnight!  A team of people is required to build it, to the set designer’s plan, during the two days prior to the production week.  If you are handy with a hammer, a dab hand with a drill or just tip-top at making tea then your help will be needed - we all lend a hand!
Prompt
Hopefully the quietest person during a show! The prompt needs to attend rehearsals and performances and know each part as well as they actors.
Sound person
Often a production will require sound effects.  This person will collate the effects onto disc and be in charge of cueing the sounds along with performance night music etc., under the supervision of the Stage Manager.
Front of House
A number of people are required during the production week to meet & greet people in the theatre foyer and sell them programmes.
